Abarth 500

The history of Abarth dates back to 1949 when Carlo Abarth purchased assets following the bankruptcy of Cisitalia (other Italian sports car brand). Scorpion is the indispensable part of the company's logo and was derived from being Carlo's astrological sign. Over the years, Abarth was engaged in building sports cars for racing, racing itself and supplying other brands with performance parts. Under the Fiat ownership (since 1971) Abarth became its racing department and eventually ceased to exist (in 1981). Its brand, however, was used to occasionally mark Fiat's performance cars.

Abarth 500 was introduced in 2008 as a part of company's revival a marked a year earlier. All 500 models (including current) use turbocharged and intercooled 1,4 liter straight four engine. The most powerful version offered produces 180 PS with a peak torque of 250 Nm. Acceleration 0-100 takes 6,7 seconds. Is it impressive?
.
I took the shot of this Abarth 500 in Turin, a natural environment for the Fiat.
